Birthing Kit Foundation Australia

Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA) is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to increase maternal and newborn survival rates in remote areas of the world. They do this by supplying birthing kits, which contain basic supplies needed for childbirth. The kits contain only the essential components to support mothers in high risk or emergency settings.

In 2019 Medline not only had the privilege of hosting 2 birthing kit assembly days for BKFA but we were also able to make a substantial product donation of 54 pallets of medical gauze. The 54 pallets equates to one year’s supply of gauze that will go to fill 240,000 birthing kits and aid in improving the outcome for 240,000 newborns and mothers.

Eyes for Africa

Eyes for Africa is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to overcome the issues of widespread preventable blindness in Ethiopia. Established in 2007 by Julie Tyres, an Ophthalmic Nurse, Eyes for Africa (EFA) travels to remote communities providing free cataract surgery to Men, Women and Children.

Medline was able to provide surgical drapes and gowns to EFA to be used in their January 2019 trip to Metehara. During this trip EFA was able to operate on 160 people with cataracts, referring 4 children to Adama Hospital to receive specialised care (2 of the volunteers are now sponsoring 2 of these children).
