Connecting Communities through Purpose: How Medline Empowers Employees to Give Back

Jackie Wilson, ESG Manager at Medline Australia

At Medline, giving back is more than a gesture, it’s part of who we are. As the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Manager, my role is centred on helping our organisation operate in a way that positively impacts both people and the planet, while still achieving commercial success. It’s a belief I hold deeply, and I’m proud to be part of a company that genuinely backs that vision.

One of the ways we bring that belief to life is through our Passion Projects initiative, a unique program that gives employees the opportunity, support, and resources to lead a charitable activity close to their hearts. It's a simple yet powerful idea: if something matters to you, it matters to us.

Passion Projects begin with one employee and one idea. They submit a proposal to our internal Charity & Volunteer Committee, outlining their vision for a charitable initiative. This could involve a few colleagues or even the entire company. Once approved, Medline provides support in a variety of ways from financial or product donations to mentoring and communications support, helping turn ideas into action.

This isn’t just about writing a cheque or ticking a box. It’s about creating real, tangible impact, both in the community and within our workplace culture.

When we support our employees in giving back, the effects ripple across the organisation. Passion is infectious. It brings people together across departments, roles, and even state lines.

Medline supports volunteering not just in spirit but in policy. All permanent employees are entitled to one paid day of Volunteer Leave per year, giving them the opportunity to participate in charitable work during business hours. In 2024, this program sponsored 375 volunteer hours, alongside 461 kilograms of food donations and blood donations that helped save 306 lives

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, “Connecting Communities,” couldn’t be more fitting. Volunteering is, at its core, about care-care for people, care for place, care for purpose. At Medline, we work in healthcare, so it’s no surprise our people are drawn to initiatives that make a difference.

Whether its packing food hampers, fundraising for health causes, or simply giving blood, we show up. We connect. We give back.
